I just found a stash of Hilltop Fun Center tickets along with 300 tickets worth of coupons that I stocked up in 2004. Do these expire?

So I thought about what kinds of presents I like.

I figured out once again that I am a pretty easy person to please. People ask me what I want for things like Christmas and my birthday, and I almost all the time find myself saying “nothing” or “monayys”. Even though people always say it’s lame, it’s true. I don’t really like having people spend money on me just because they feel obligated to. But if they want to, then money is a perfectly acceptable gift since I can buy my own present with it, which most likely ends up being something like a Kid’s Meal at Friendly’s or half-off appetizers from Applebee’s.

But I think the most memorable part about a gift is not what’s inside of it. It’s a mix of:

    a) the person who gave me the gift

    b) the reason behind it, and

    c) the way I reacted when I got it

    that makes it special.

On my birthday this past summer, I needed new shoes, and I decided that if my mom was going to buy me a present, then it might as well be something I need. There was an online sale, so my mom ended up buying the shoes I picked out which were a pair of Puma Speeders (and I guess they’re not selling them in my color anymore). To be honest, I was pretty excited when I got them, and am still psyched to have them. But since my mom really had no intention of buying them for me, and she treated me like junk for pretty much that whole week, the gift lost so much value. It was just like a pretty pair of shoes that was thrown at me. And shoes hurt.

On the flipside, the highlight presents I got this year were:

    • a free breakfast at The Mill
    • a ticket to see Dinner for Shmucks at Regal
    • Warped Tour and Bamboozle tickets

Mandy took me out for breakfast one morning as my birthday present, and took me to North Conway and spent four hours tubing down a river. In the end, the tubes got stolen, and so did my Nalgene and the tube cooler.

Veronica and I had a picnic at Lucas Pond in Northwood, and went swimming with the fishies, then she took me to the movies to watch Dinner for Shmucks. She also bought me Warped Tour and Bamboozle tickets, and we spent the night in Mansfield after Bamboozle where I saw some of the best bands.

She got me the Warped Tour ticket too but ended up having to give up her ticket, and Mandy, Shelby and I spent the whole day in Mansfield seeing my favorite bands in concert and meeting them in person.

These were some of the best things ever because I wasn’t only able to open up a gift and use it, I was able to spend the whole day with the people I love and get to spend time with them. I guess it’s because I love being with people I care about.

To add to my list, there were other presents that I was pretty excited about. An iamdavidcook CD and poster both signed by David Cook (from My Favorite Highway), which is pretty memorable since Sharon had it signed “To Sharon” without knowing it. Another CD from Pete which I wasn’t expecting since he had told me earlier that he wasn’t going to let me borrow that Gungor CD he was buying. An invitation to come over on my birthday from Nate and Michelle, and a really hilarious card. Steak from Josh to cook in the new backyard. And Lazer-tag tickets from Erika to go with her Veronica, and Nikki after the beach/Wendy’s/pool trip we had.

Most of these were far less expensive than the shoes my mom bought. But even if she didn’t buy those for me, I actually wouldn’t trade out any of my other presents for it. They exhibited a much more significant value than the shoes my mom wasn’t even going to buy me. Each one had its own story, and it’d be pretty hard for me to try to get them out of my head. So to wrap this up, I guess the old cliché, “It’s the thought that counts,” works here. I don’t need expensive presents that people need to stress over. I like the presents that take thought, and come cheerfully from people who I know didn’t just feel obligated to give.

Also, as long as you’re not creepy, your time is a pretty fantastic gift too.

I wish this weekend wouldn’t come to an end

This weekend has been one of the most amazing weekends I’ve had in suchhh a long time. My parents actually let me gooo places! withhh friends! (even better)

    Things I never mentioned:

    • I washed windshields at Irving yesterday to support Special Olympics! I washed Parsont’s :D I also got the pleasure of seeing the mail lady drive off with the gas pump still in the tank and have it come off from the machine completely.
    • I went to Friendly’s yesterday
    • I played tons of basketball and dodgeball
    • Lowlight: I missed Mikah’s 16thhh sorryyy mikah! all because of my mother.

Schooool needs to stop. I no longer have the drive for it and I just really do notttt care about how i do on tests and such because the school year is coming to an end. I hate/love this time of year: love, cuz it’s almost summer. and hate, cuz it seems to be going by wayyyyy tooo slowly.

    Me time

So this weekend has been pretty blahhhh except for the youth rally lst night. That was awesome. But before that, I just stayed at home while listening to music and being on the computer and watching TV. It sounds kinda lazy and no-life-ish, but the past few weekends Ive been super busy especially with birthday parties. Yes those were extremely fun and made me happy by being with friends, but it felt good just being lazy, enjoying myself, and relaxing. I surprisingly loved doing just that.

But now I wanna be with my friends again and it’s a shame that what I’m doing tomorrow will take up 1:30 - 4:30. So that means nothing else can really happen before or after that. I wish I had more time time time time time.
